While I didn't measure throughput on today's new dd-wrt release, I did look at signal strength at the farthest point from the router in my house where I use wireless using WiFi Analyzer. Just want to give an update, in my case, Netgear newest firmware R7000-V1.0.3.60_1.1.27 was just junk compared to DD-WRT kongac 24710. slower transfer rate(11MBps/15MBps) using the same laptop combo mentioned in the original post, worst range, not to mention DD-WRT features which just straight out way better than the stock firmware. Change to the directory containing the original Linksys firmware to use for this boot, or the DD-WRT firmware you want to install, whose size must be less than 3 MB (this example assumes that the firmware file name is code.bin). Could be worse: I have an R8000 (not R8000p) and every FW beyond DD-WRT v3.0-r40270M kongac (07/11/19) completely fucks up both 5GHz radios. wl0 & wl2 try to broadcast using the same channels and wl0, normally the strongest radio nets me a whopping -98db when I place my phone directly on the router.
